Grass Valley, CA — As of now, elephants are coming to the Nevada County Fair.
The measure was approved by the county board on April 23, 2013.
Video from the Animal Defenders International allegedly shows Have Trunk Will Travel abusing elephants – the same company responsible for the elephants coming to the fair.
Since the video resurfaced, there’s been community opposition to the elephant rides being offered at the fair.
Earlier this month, there was a meeting where the board said their decision is final.
Now there’s another push, hoping this time the Nevada County Board will listen.
“We will respond with many many voices; to try to convince them that these elephants don’t belong at our fair, our fair is an agricultural fair,” said Shelley Frost, Program Manager for the Center for Animal Protection & Education and a Nevada County resident.
Frost is organizing a meeting scheduled for the public July 1. It will happen at the Holbrooke Hotel in Grass Valley.
