The KCRA 3 Rim Fire update from Friday night August 23rd.

One man filmed how the nearby Rim Fire looked on Friday at 3:15 PM just south of Tuolumne City.

KCRA 3 showcases how smoke from the Rim Fire is directly affecting other counties well to the north of Tuolumne. In addition to El Dorado County (as showcased in this report), we’ve heard several reports of dismal air quality in Calaveras, Amador, Alpine, Mono and Sutter counties. The smoke is also heavily affecting the Lake Tahoe Basin and the western part of northern Nevada from Gardnerville to Reno.

According to KRON 4 television (San Francisco), this is home video of the Rim Fire. No specifics were given of this very close footage:

The gigantic air tankers dropping fire retardant on the Rim Fire flames are being fueled and loaded at McClellan Airport in Sacramento, CA.

This sped-up time lapse video is of the start of the Rim Fire on Saturday, August 17th at 3:23 PM. This comes from a home webcam that was located just a few miles west of the fire. You can see clouds over the Sierra Nevada. Although the cause of the fire has not yet been determined, one theory is that the Rim Fire may have been started by a lightning strike.
