The wife he was making reference to was his second wife, Marianne Gingrich, who he was cheating on at the time. Seventeen years later in 2012, Newt suddenly and angrily turned on CNN’s John King and said, “I’m astounded that you’d bring up my ex-wife”.

1995: Gingrich Gave $40 Billion To Mexico
Sometimes it’s fun to go back in the time machine to watch the effective leadership of current Presidential candidates. From this clip in 1995, House Speaker Newt Gingrich (R) worked with President Bill Clinton and Vice President Al Gore to help bailout Mexico. Gingrich did this despite the outcry of many fellow Republicans and conservatives.
